Beowulf Movie
When I first watched the trailer of Beowulf, I found it fascinating because it was in 3D, real human like, and legendary story, like a Lord Of The Ring story in 3D animation. I was rather looking forward to this movie.
And last Thursday night, Alvin was suggesting to watch the premiere, I wasn’t too keen because I knew there would be a lot of people and after the gym we would be either no time for dinner or simply too tired. Nevertheless, we made it to the movie, and I was surprised Cineleisure only accepted RM9 each for such a premiere, rather cheap in current KL standard.
The first approximately 45 minutes of the movie was really good, Beowulf character as a hero was awesome, cocky, and arrogant, none of the humble hero character but still very powerful. And another surprise for me is that there were many foul language and scene which enforcing that 3D animation is no longer a children friendly genre. Grendel the monster was really ugly, and I found it funny the cocky Beowulf would fight it naked, let alone not have a weapon (well, if we miscount the giant chain)
Since the scene where Beowulf aged, I found the whole story hard to swallow, it was a rather huge jump and it didn’t explain what really happened during the period (may have more than 20 years). I was rather bored and frustrated with the story till the end, it is unacceptable to miss a huge part of all his great adventures.
Even though I never read a single book of Beowulf, but my impression of this hero stays in the first 45 minutes. After all, this is what a hero action movie should be. 2 stars (for the sake of 3D and nudity)
I appreciate the fact that this movie gives a pseudo-education in ancient literature (never had to read the book as a child)
