The Drugs
Within one week time, I had consulted doctors 4 times, quite a record for me, and till now I am still feeling woozy especially my blocked nose and itchy throat. And as a result, I get one day sick leave off from my work which seems to be a bliss to me right now, (hell do I care what hell would lay on me tomorrow in the office)
So today I basically sleep all day, as much as I could, and having a peaceful time as no one is at home, and I don’t need to speak to anybody to avoid irritating my throat. I get to do laundry and clean up my room, and I could really sit down and writing my blogs. This is a really good day for me and I enjoy being alone.
Talking about my disease, yesterday the doctor concurred that I have Rhinitis. According to Wikipedia, the wicked encyclopedia:
“Rhinitis is the medical term describing irritation and inflammation of some internal areas of the nose. The primary symptom of rhinitis is a runny nose. It is caused by chronic or acute inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose due to viruses, bacteria or irritants. The inflammation results in the generating of excessive amounts of mucous producing a runny nose, nasal congestion and post-nasal drip. Rhinitis has also been found to adversely affect more than just the nose, throat, and eyes. It has been associated with sleeping problems, problems with the ears, and even been linked to learning problems[citation needed].
Rhinitis is caused by an increase in histamine. This increase is likely caused by airborne allergens. These allergens may affect an individual’s nose, throat, or eyes and cause an increase in fluid production within these areas.
There are two types of Rhinitis that the general population may suffer from: Allergic Rhinitis and Nonallergic Rhinitis. Rhinitis is considered IgE-mediated when the sufferer is classified as having allergic rhinitis.”
This is the first time I ever heard the medical term since SINUS for a nose problem. But I accepted that and took the spray given to try it out if it’s really working. Later the day I found myself fall like nie pin with a fever, so on my way home I consulted another doctor to get some Ponstel (I’m allergic to erythromycin, voltaren, and paraceptamol) and a grateful MC.
Now I need to eat 5 different types of pills and the Nasacort spray.
The Spray
Triamcinolone Acetonide - a corticosteroid used to reduce itching, redness, and swelling associated with many skin conditions. (for my case, the nose swelling tissue that cause the running nose)
The Flu
Cetirizine Hydrochloride - an antihistamine. Antihistamines work by preventing the effects of a substance called histamine, which is produced by the body. Cetirizine is used to relieve or prevent the symptoms of hay fever and other types of allergy. It is also used to help relieve itching and hives. (for my case, the nose again)
Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride - a type of medicine called a decongestant. It works by stimulating receptors (alpha-receptors) in certain areas of the body, particularly in the lining of the nose and sinuses. (this is for night use)
The Fever
Mefenamic acid - a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat pain, including menstrual pain (yikes). It is commercially available as PonstelĀ®. It is also prescribed as an antipyretic drug. It is typically prescribed for oral administration. Mefenamic acid decreases inflammation (swelling) and uterine contractions by a still unknown mechanism. However it is thought to be related to the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
The Allergy
Prednisolone - an active metabolite of prednisone. Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid drug which is usually taken orally but can be delivered by intramuscular injection and can be used for a great number of different conditions. It has a mainly glucocorticoid effect. Prednisone is a prodrug that is converted by the liver into prednisolone, which is the active drug and also a steroid.
The Antibiotic
Cephalexin - a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is an orally-administered agent with a similar antimicrobial spectrum to the intravenous agents cefalotin and cefazolin. It is commonly marketed under the trade name Keflex (Lilly) or Sporidex (Ranbaxy). (for my case Sofilex)
A lot to read, a lot to learn, I got it all from Wikipedia, and this should be good for me, and I am thankful that I did not actually wanted to be a doctor~
